The second installment of Andrew Bird's "Gezelligheid" concerts
began this week with three performances at Washington DC's
Sixth & I Synagogue.
With a backdrop of Hanukkah menorahs (the shows landed on nights
#6-7-8 of this year's festival of lights), Andrew performed
amidst a field of Victrola-esque speakers and hornlets, crafted
by Chicago's Specimen
Products.

out performances in Boston (December 10), and Chicago (December

"... many songs sounded like outright classical pieces
(like his opening tune), and a few sounded like shoegaze
played on a violin. Who knew that with only a few pedals
and horns, one could make a single violin sound like a
caterwauling guitar?
... the most intimate part of the performance came between
Bird's showcases of instrumental skill. Much like an old
episode of 'VH1 Storytellers', Bird took time to reflect on
his influences for certain songs, whether childhood
memories (he apparently threw all of his stuffed animals
out of his crib at 18 months), movie scenes or his reaction
to recent news events."
